Nine days of emotions that will be delivered by the participants of the Powiat Poznanski Open tournament await tennis fans from 19 to 27 of July on the Sobota Tennis Center courts.
The Main Draw starts on Monday 21 of July and the qualifying events will be played starting on Saturday (July 19th). Total prize money is 50 000$ plus the so called hospitality (organizers guarantee e.g. a number of gratuitous hotel accommodation, meals etc.). This enhances the ‘value’ of the tournament up to 75 000$. Female players from the top 50 of the WTA list cannot participate in the tournament on the clay courts of the CTS.
– We would like to host the best players, but most of all, we want to promote young Polish female players and in cooperation with the Polish Tennis Association we will grant the ‘wild cards’. It is however too early to mention any names – stresses Karol Przygodzki, Director of the Powiat Poznanski Open tournament.
One thing is certain, the winner of the tournament in Sobota will receive 100 points, and the finalist 60, to the WTA classification.
Fans would like to see in the Main Draw two Poznan-born female players who are fighting their way to the world top: Katarzyna Piter and Magda Linette. This however depends on their starting plans.
It is worth mentioning that in Wielkopolska also men professional tournaments are held: in the first half of July there is the Challenger Poznan Open on Olimpia Tennis Park courts and in August – Futures- Wielkopolska International Tennis Championship Talex Open on the AZS courts at ul. Noskowskiego in Poznan.
