Opening conference

This is good news for all fans of the white sport. Between July 21-27 courts of Sobota Tennis Center will hold the International Women’s Tournament ITF PRO Powiat Poznanski Open.

Total prize money is 50 000$. The winner will also get 100 points to the WTA ranking. – This will make many great players come down here – says Karol Przygodzki, director of the tournament. Partner of the event is the district of Poznan.

-We have recently been awarded with the Superpowiat award and got the Builder of Polish Sports title and this obliges to something. We have been promoting sports for long and this event is the culmination of our efforts. A tournament like this one will at the same time constitute great promotion of our region. We hope for high sports level and interest from fans – said the Starost of Poznan, Jan Grabkowski, at a special press conference.

Powiat Poznanski Open will be the second most important this year’s tennis tournament in our country. -We are very well prepared for this event. The only thing that can surprise us is… the weather, but we have no impact on it. In our Sobota Tennis Center there are ten outdoor and eight indoor courts. Female players will therefore have a place to play. We hope that the event will be held periodically and become more and more prestigious with every year – added Tomasz Nowicki, the owner of Poz-Bruk company.

Organizers of the tournament would like to host top Polish female players in Sobota. Participation of Agnieszka Radwanska during to procedural considerations is not possible. Her younger sister Urszula can however play in our tournament. Similarly, Poznan-born players, Katarzyna Piter and Magda Linette can participate. We hope that both of them will join the tournament because they would be a great attraction for fans. However the composition of participants will be known only at the beginning of July- said Karol Przygodzki.

One thing is certain, we will see lots of good tennis in Sobota and even though in these dates there will be as many as 18 similar events held all over the world, Powiat Poznanski Open will be the second when it comes to prestige and prizes. – This will ensure that almost certainly we will have players from the second 100 of the WTA ranking arriving to us and this guarantees high sports level of the event- assured the sports director of the tournament.
